DANNY'S RAP - #WT20 CHAMPIONS
Well it doesn't get any better than that! Both the Men's and the Women's West Indies T20 teams take out the ICC World titles, on the same night and at the same venue, and get to celebrate together.
What a party! Truly it feels like the Universe / Gods were smiling and sending all the right vibes. To Steph Taylor's gals and Darren Sammy's team for the divine double - I am so rapt for West Indies cricket!
The celebrations of the guys at the end of the Women's final was a pure delight and then the unbridled passion of joy and delight of Samuels and Brathwaite's efforts to snatch a dramatic victory over England....simply sensational. And speaking of Brathwaite....what a wonderful, loveable giant Carlos is!
And it is no coincidence that Brathwaite, Andre Fletcher and Johnson Charles had influence with their performances during the earlier rounds of the ICC WT20 because of the development of the Caribbean Premier League since 2013.
These young-ish gladiators have not only had the extra T20 experience of game time wth the CPL, but just as important, has been the learning for the West Indies talent of the overseas stars. The sharing of a dressing room wth the likes of Kevin Pietersen, Brad Hodge, Daniel Vettori, Bradley Hogg, Johan Botha, Mahela Jayawardene, Kumar Sangakkara and Mohammad Hafeez, to name but a few, is invaluable to the development of up 'n coming Caribbean talent. I am really looking forward to CPL 4, with so much more excitement and fun, that only the Caribbean can serve up! The truly unique flavour that is the 'Carnival' of CPL T20 is simply sensational and this year there’s the added buzz of playing matches in Central Broward Stadium in Fort Lauderdale. What an opportunity this promises to be! Well done and congrats again to the West Indies women's and men's WT20 teams....World Champions! Love ya to bits 'n pieces!
And, in the words of the incomparable DJ Bravo, “Chaaaampions, Chaaaaampions, chaaaaaampions!”
