BARBADOS TRIDENTS’ SHOAIB MALIK BRACED FOR TALLAWAHS TEST

By Author CPL

The Barbados Tridents presently sit in fourth place in the Limacol Caribbean Premier League standings having secured four wins from six games. Their final encounter before they head to St. Kitts is against the Jamaica Tallawahs - the team that beat them twice last season and denied them a spot in the final.

Tridents all-rounder Shoaib Malik from Pakistan sat down with www.cplt20.com and gave his thoughts ahead of the encounter at Sabina Park on Sunday.

Playing against the Jamaica Tallawahs especially in Jamaica, is going to be very challenging. They have strong support and their fans are very loud and passionate about their cricket. Sabina Park has not changed. I came here in 2007 for the Cricket World Cup and the patriotism and passion is still there for the sport. That crowd can truly inspire a team to success.

Malik who was the leading run scorer in CPL last season with 272 runs and averaging 34 runs per match also spoke about the Tridents chances this season; I believe we have a balanced squad with a mix between experienced veterans and young mercurial talents in the team. It was unfortunate that we did not win all our home games this season but that result versus Guyana will make us stronger and more prepared in the future. We have a solid chance of winning the title but we are going to have to play as a team; each member of the team has a role to chip in.

The 32 year old who won the 2009 T20 World Cup with Pakistan in England sent a message to the Barbados Tridents fans. We vow to do our best and do everything we can to make you proud, all we ask is that you stick behind us and give us the necessary support.
